I use the Alvey 500C5's for Snapper, best reel in my opinion & they will last for another 97yrs.

Cool, I just ordered 2, I have the perfect Aussie made Ugly Sticks to pair them up with, going retro this season.
Where did you order them from?

I love my Alvey for Kayak and beach fishing. Very sad to see them closing.

I just ordered a 500 C5 for boat use and a 6500 BCVRRT for the surf. I thought I'd better get in before they are no longer available.

Fish-Hunter, what lines would you recommend I spool them with

Neil

Platypus Lo Stretch is the No#1 choice, as it has a low stretch which is great for reducing any line twist, as this allows any twist to easily work through to the swivel un-twisting the line.

Also Platipus Lo Stretch has the added benefit of not over stretching on the spool, as Alvey reels have a huge line capacity, it helps keep the spool with less line compression force onto it.

Second choice Platypus Platinum or Monoflex.

I am buying a 650BRR right now so I a can cast some metal lures into the surf as well as bait fish. Kayak or beach there is nothing better than the Alvey.

Platypus is pretty thin, how many meters of 8kg would you need to fill a 500c5?
