TLD 2000 drag 'sticking'
While fishing on Saturday I noticed the drag on my TLD needed to overcome a fair bit of initial friction before line started coming off it. Once it had overcome that initial resistance it felt fairly smooth and even.
Just wondering what the best thing to do about this is. Open it up, clean the washer(s), apply some fresh grease and put it back together again?

They're pretty straight forward once you open them up mate. Just give the washers a clean, put it back together.

Re: TLD 2000 drag 'sticking'
did you get water in it at any stage..
a clean up of the wshers and some fresh grease might be the first port of call.
but beware once you open it up kiss the warranty goodbye.
might as well upgrade to carbon washers if it dosnt already have them.

Re: TLD 2000 drag 'sticking'
At $135 each I don't think warranty is to much of an issue on the handle side there is a small hole on the body that is a drain hole lets water out and allows oil to go in. After washing I put a couple of drops in and store in the rack with the drag released.
They are a very simple reel and there is loads of info on the net on how to service most reels with pictures and videos

The initial sticking might be caused by not having drag off during storage. Just have the clicker on and release the lever. That goes for all reels.

Pull it apart and put new washers in. Grab a sheet of carbontex from the Downrigger shop and do others at the same time. Super simple reels to pull apart and service

There's a thought. Do I need anything special to cut the stuff?cobby wrote:Pull it apart and put new washers in. Grab a sheet of carbontex from the Downrigger shop and do others at the same time. Super simple reels to pull apart and service

just don't use that grape as a template. Stanley knife and the old washers as templates is allCarlG wrote:scissors, and an iq larger than that of a grape.4liters wrote:There's a thought.
