I have a few siennas that have failed over the years, always same issue. The oscillating gear cogs start to slip, that is spool stops going back and forth. Stripping and servicing gets them going again, but problem reoccurs.
Is there a work around to improve this or are the teeth just too worn, and is this common to siennas? They have had a good flogging must admit.
I have other budget shimanos but it only happens to the siennas

Re: sienna service question
Try more or thicker shims first. I have one with the same issue but haven't tried to fix it yet. It's probably not worth getting spare parts from shimano due to the cost plus postage but worth getting a quote I suppose. On special I have bought new sienna 2500 for $25.
Perhaps you could try finding shims locally or even make your own out of a beer can aluminium or something cost effective. Hole punches are pretty cheap.
I'm pretty sure the reel doctor in FTG would have some you could buy and pickup pretty cheap too.

Re: sienna service question
Anyone replaced the bearings in a Sienna?
I was going to buy some on ebay:

Just wondering if anyone has done this.
