Anyone know how a strike drag on an overhead reel works? The squall I just bought has one but I'm not sure what it's for or how to use it to best effect. I'll be using that reel primarily to balloon for sharks if that makes a difference.
Cheers

Re: Strike drag?
Lever drag? Strike is generally set at 1/3rd breaking strain of the mainline.
To set you need scales, lever in free spool and tighten/loosen knob next to lever, place in strike and test with scales. Rinse and repeat until you're St desired level

Re: Strike drag?
Back the drag lever all the way off. Turn the gold knob clockwise a few clicks. Push the lever back to strike and check the drag.
Keep doing this until you've reached your desired drag setting.
Never turn that knob while the drag lever is pushed up. Always adjust it with the drag lever fully backed off.
There are heaps of youtube videos showing how to adjust lever drag reels.
Cheers, Anth

Thanks for the replies, I'll have another look when I get home and see if I can sort it out now.
