Rod and/or reel for beginner
Hi everyone,
I am new to fishing and use a fishing rod my girlfriends dad does not use anymore and was wondering if there is any good rods? I am pretty poor and cannot afford to drop a load of money on a rod (saving for a car).
The reel on the rod I was gifted is all buckled and the line keeps getting caught up underneath.
If anyone could kindly suggest and/or post links to good and/or cheap rods/reels it would be forever appreciated.
I live in the Keilor Downs area and willing to travel.
Best regards,
donutcrooks - Chris

Mte, if you want something cheap but that will last you can sometimes pick up a shimano catana and sienna combo for around $100.
Great combo will last a few years and be a pleasure to use.

X2 for the sienna combo I think all forum members here can agree the sienna reel is best value for money in a reel on our market!

X3 I'm a Diawa guy but my 2 Sienna reel and Sonic Pro rod combo's are brilliant for a budget set up.BCF at Taylors Lakes usually have them on sale.

Hi boys,
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions! I forgot I could detach reels and took my reel off my cheap Shimano telescopic rod and used that. It is 10000x better and will last me a while without having to spend money!

Donutcrooks do a ring around to a few tackle stores if your hunting for sale items or get on their email list. FishingFever or Complete Angler are good places to start.

If you are just starting, don't buy rods. PM sent. To get you started, I can unload some stuff to you for free. Happy new year! Save your money for the reels.
