DAIWA BG 8000

Post by Tackleberry » Fri Oct 21, 2016 9:15 pm

Gday all i have today bought my 1st daiwa reel in more that 25 years the last were 3 GS9

for off the 90 mile beach for gummy school bronzy and the like now i use 25lb mono main

and a shock leader of 40 or 50lb depending what i have at the time hence the beefy reels .

so bear with as i ain't the most literate type but i will do a review on this reel over the

gummy season .

and SHIMANO could learn a thing or two on how to box a reel

IMG_3209 (Medium).JPG
i will put this in the mix as Alan hawk dose it better than i will ever do but if you take
http://www.alanhawk.com/reviews/bg16.html
the time to read this you will quickly discover that this reel has a lot of tech that saltiga

and stella's have but that's the good stuff on the inside , the one thing from my perspective

that realy doesn't sit right is the flimsy bail and the hinge i can see this braking with the

rough treatment it will get in the boat and on the beach but time will tell and i hope i am

wrong as for $250 this in a beast of a reel .

anyway i hope that all i have to report about this reel is all good

cheers TAC

Looks like a solid reel. My daiwa reels have lasted years with a bit of maintenance. Warm water wash down after every use and a spray of INOX, Pulled apart and re-greased every season and you shouldn't have a problem.
The line roller is something you need to take apart and re-grease every now and again because it cops a lot of salt water and sand.

Hope you get a few on it mate!

Cheers, Anth

Nice purchase, I've been looking at them myself but at this stage don't have a use for them

well the weather is crap here atm so down to the lake for a bit of practice today with

the new reel and for an accurate account i took a rig and a lump of eel as well .

got a comment from a passer bye big rod you have there so i says thats what she said

and strait over the top of his head it went as he looked behind him self as if there was

someone there haha.

any way it doesn't cast no further than a 950ssm but no less either and that was the point

of this exercise 120M with a slight head breeze , and i am very happy with how smooth the

reel is and with a higher gear ratio it is no harder to wind in than the others this one is 5.7:1

the 950ssm 4.7:1 so far so good .
