Stick bait rod advice
I'm in the market for a reasonable 7' rod for casting stick baits, poppers and whatever from the yak. I was wondering if a 10kg rod would be too light for kings and potentially school size tuna, and if so what weight should I be looking at?
It'll more than likely be matched up with a Quantum cabo 40 or 50, or something like that if that makes a difference

Re: Stick bait rod advice
If you chuck a budget up you might be able to get more specific suggestions. Personally I'm looking at a rod for similar applications and my current choices are Pe 2-5 with a 25-80g cast weight or Pe 1.5-3 with a 15-60g cast weight.

Re: Stick bait rod advice
under $200 is the budget, with value for money being important
what are those PEs in kg? 10-14kg and 7-15kg? rods in my price range tend not to be fancy enough for Pe ratings

Re: Stick bait rod advice
As a rough conversion for rods Pe 1 is equal to 10lb. So i'm looking at 15-30lb and 20-50lb but this varies widely between manufactures.

Re: Stick bait rod advice
Slightly out of your price range but a mate bought a 15-30lb terez for the exact same purpose after much deliberation and discussions with several (seemingly knowledgable) tackle stores. I think he ended up paying $219 on special and it is a bloody nice rod. Can cast big X raps and even jig with it (although not ideal for jigging).
I reckon that the action required for working a stick bait properly from a yak would be bloody hard work!

Re: Stick bait rod advice
Yeah I saw the Terez rods on Dinga for $219, they also have Revolution travel rods for $160ish which might go ok too
If it's too hard I'll just use bibbed lures instead maybe
Originally I was going to get a 20-40lb Gary Howard G Force Extreme because i thought i could get those cheap but that isn't the case so now I'm considering other options.
There's a Crucis rod on Sneaky Fisho that is within the budget, I've never heard of them though so I have no idea if it's a good deal

Based on what skronk has said I think the first rod I get will be the PE 1-3 option

Re: Stick bait rod advice
Do you need more flexible rods or different rod action in the action work when fishing from a yak compared to a boat?
