Abu 5000 reel repair. Help?

Post by smile0784 » Mon Sep 26, 2016 5:52 pm

Hi
Had a look at one of my reels. A abu 5000 bait caster.
and i think the spring is broken under the gear release button.
I can push it in but have to get my nail under it and lift it half way befor the cogs lift the rest.

Does anyone know where i can buy òne?
Preferably in the south east suburbs.

Cheers ricki

Your best bet would be ebay. Heaps of spares on there. Take it apart first and have a look. You can get a pdf of the schematics off the interent. It probably just needs to be aligned again. I don't think there is a spring. Its a gear that once you turn the handle it knocks the button back out.

Cheers, Anth

try the real doctor in ferntree gully. Geoff Simmons 0400917404. If you chat to him he will probably know what the problem is and can supply or make parts for most stuff. If you don't want to do it yourself he can do it for you too. I've used him a few times for parts and carbon drag washers, good bloke and better than buying a $1.20 part and paying $17 postage which is what I've been quoted from shimano before! Haven't bought Abu parts so I don't know if they're the same.

Good one mate. I usually give my abu's a rinse with hot fresh water after every use so it dries quicker then give them a spray with INOX.
Keeps them working forever
