Rod & Reel Suggestion/s please

I do cut the loops on my droppers. I try and use a minimum of 15lb as I find the lighter stuff tangled up after a couple of flatties.

No rod suggestions from me as it ain't my forte. Those $109 penns dougies is suggesting sound good though.

Looking at this rod & reel below but not decided yet. The Penn Allegiance seems slightly cheaper than the Prevail.
(Birthday in 2 weeks and I've asked for gift certificates - see how I go)

.........and while I'm on a roll asking everything under the sun, what do you reckon line wise if I only intend to use this rod/reel for soaking baits?
Get away with just using mono or shell out extra for braid?

or an XL slimey/yakka jumps on the end and does about 4000 figure 8s before you can get it under control.

just go for a good 15lb mono for soaking bait you can still use a 25lb shock leader if you need too .

I'd get braid unless you plan on using it somewhere snaggy where the abrasion resistance of mono would be handy.
You'll be able to cast further and because braid doesn't stretch it will be more sensitive to little nibbles.
