Recommendation 2500 Reel $50 - $100
Hi
Need a new reel for my 7 ft Shimano Sonic Pro, having destroyed Sienna, Cazna I am not buying anymore Shimano in that price range and I am looking for some thing around the $50 - $100 mark in the 2500 size, general purpose, bait fishing, soft plastic. Just wondering if anyone can recommend something in that price range that isn't crap? Cheers.

Have a search on here - someone posted a couple of weeks ago Shimano Symetre and Aernos reels for $70-$80ish. I think that was at southern sport fishing in Black Rock, but I could be wrong.
Couldn't go past those for your price range.

I'm surprised you said that about the sienna. I have had a few for awhile now and for the price find them to be great reels.

I blame kayak fishing for most of the problems, I have managed to pull apart two Sienna and 1 Cazna and make one functioning Sienna. But apart from the kayak fishing punishment, the bail arms seem to bend easily and the drag sticks so I have lost confidence in the lower end Shimano gear, even the rods have issues with the guides turning green, inserts falling out etc...Lightningx wrote:I'm surprised you said that about the sienna. Dunno how you've managed to kill a sienna. I'm yet to rinse my two since I bought them a couple of years ago and they're fine. That being said, they haven't been dunked or similar like they'd get on a kayak.
Shimano usually have the rep for reliability in the lower end reels so I don't know what to suggest. I wouldn't go with daiwa at that price point. Maybe Penn? I think they do a spin fisher in 2500

I recently got my hands on the Diawa AIRD 2500H. Not a problem so far. Smooth as a anything and can handle some biggins. I've been using for everything from flicking plastics to pier fishing.
Anglers warehouse have them for $98.
Cheers,

Penn Slammers are my go-to for kayak fishing. You get them from Dinga for about $70-80 with free postage.

The new range are very water resistant and have metal bodies, the new slammers are water proof not just water resistant, I doubt you could kill one..4liters wrote:Penn Slammers are my go-to for kayak fishing. You get them from Dinga for about $70-80 with free postage.

If you kill Sienna's I doubt you'll have much luck with anything else. The only way I reckon you could kill one is multiple dunkings.
