I've got a Daiwa Windcast. I like the overall design and the way it feels, I don't like how big it is. I thought it would make a good reel for surf spinning to get the slugs out a few extra meters but I think it'll end up spooled with 20lb braid and turned into a gummy fishing reel.

Saltiga surf is what I have. Been pretty happy with it for bait fishing.

What rod do you have that matched with?

At the moment it is matched to a nitro messiah. It will probably be reused on the AFAW 6 and bait as well.

Owned a windcast 5500 LDA. Moved it on after finding way too much flex in the reel stem fighting a black ray. Big fish yes, but the reel was only stressed to the point of the drag setting I had with 40lb leader. Drag went lumpy on both spools pretty quickly too.

Replaced with an aerlex 8000 which seems pretty much bulletproof. Happy with this reel and others I know who own one are too.

Bought an ultegra xtc the other day which is a step or two up from the aerlex. Yet to fish with it but I'm looking forward to doing so. Baitrunner spool knob which is interesting but the design is stupid. The knob has openings that serve no purpose but to allow windblown sand into the drag system. I could possibly replace it with a knob from one of the other ultegra models but I might lose the BR feature

I have the Shimano surf leader 13ft + daiwa emcast 6000, an old rod and reel.. This rod n reel have given me the longest cast ever with whole sardine or big bait..

I quite like the Nitro Messiah 13ft, but i would say my surf leader cast the furthest atm.. I find the rod below a bit shorter then some surf rods which doesnt gives enough power for extreme cast compare to i have cast a Daiwa saltiga surf rod before.

as for the Daiwa seajigger 325 + shimano Stella 8000, i am still yet to find out..

Shimano Albrid from Japan team up with my Messiah. Nice light reel. Cast a lot further than my Spheros.

Doesn't have a line clip thoug which is really annoying.

I have a Catalina 5000H to a 13ft Saltiga Surf and a Windcast 5500Z to a 13ft Daiwa Moonraker. I found that I can use the Catalina for spinning as well as bait fishing thus not having a dedicated reel for the surf.
