are tld 50s big enough for marlin and big tuna?

Post by smile0784 » Thu Aug 04, 2016 9:18 am

Hi all
Just after some advice.
I recently acquired 2 new TLd 50s and had them spooled up with 1000mt of 50lb braid and 100mt of top shot.

Just wondering if they have enough justs to stop a 150kg marlin or 80kg bluefin?

Thats the biggest im ever going to catch hopefully.
Or should i look at a tiagra 30?

What are peoples thoughts on this?

TLD 50 should do the job, just done use line heavier than 50lb and correct drag setting and you should be fine. Too much drag can potentially damage the graphite frame. I have a TLD50 which I haven't used yet. I mostly use my Penn International VSW 30 as it has similar line capacity and its easier to travel with.

Yeh they will be fine mate. Just look after them and they will last years. Upgrading the drag washers would be a good idea if you want piece of mind and getting them serviced with some higher quality reel grease.

Cheers, Anth

That sounds like a wonderful idea! get a burley trail going and watch them smash your pillies just off the back of the boat. Nothing better!
