I'm not familiar with either rod but neither of them sound like squid rods? Whiting and egi rods are very different in design. You want a light, sensitive tip for whiting and long, slow action rod for working a squid jig (among many design difference). If you only want to buy one rod then focus on the whiting and then use almost any other rod for squid. I have a purpose built egi rod that I like to use but depending on your style you could use almost any rod to flick a jig. The egi rod isn't great for much else though, well with the exception of throwing big tassies a million miles into a lake from the bank looking for trout which I've been known to do! I don't know about BCF staff but if you talk to the guys at a smaller, specialist fishing shop they should be able to point you in the right direction and you identify what to look for.

I use my egi rod for pretty much everything, squid, whiting, snapper, seems to do everything fine. Depends on what your priorities are. Most 2-4kg soft plastic rods will be fine for catching squid.

Try and get something from there thats a noodle. Too stiff and it will pull jigs off from barely hooked squid.

Any soft plastic rod will usually be ok if you not concerned.
The tdt daiwa rod is a very stiff rod. So that's def out.

Look at the pflueger supreme or the shimano bushy range

depends what size jig you are using. I'd love to see the 2-4kg plastics rod that can cast or work a 20g size 3.5 jig. even a 3.0 is around the 14g mark - above the stated rating of most rods in that range.

Have a look at the Ugly Stik SP761, 1pce, 7'6", 2-5kg. I use them for whiting and squid with 2500 size reels and 15lb braid. Nice whippy action with a sensitive tip but plenty of power and cast's a wide range of weights.
