have you used an fk or reel with a similar knob? I was pretty hesitant at first but I actually really like the handle on my 5k fk

Yeah. I don't like the shimano egg handle to spin with, prefer the round ones.

I rate the Daiwa above the Simano, I've got two of them (2004/2506) and they've been good. The spools are shallow however and drag isn't as much as the Simano but still good fun on sambos ect
You're never ging to run even half of the drag on these things anyway. Very very rare day you need over 5kg of drag with a 4000 sized reel.

in which case I'd go with the sustain, even if shimano do bring out a 5k ci4+ (which i don't believe they are) I feel the sustain is far better suited to the kind of treatment that spinning beaches and ledges brings about

The drag or shallow spool aren't worrying me I intend to be getting a shallow spool variant no matter which model I get and the reels primary purpose will be estuary and light bay fishing. Just waiting to see how reviews of the new stradic stack up seeing as it's cheaper than the luvi and likely to be a bit more durable than it.
