overhead casting reel
gday all i'm after a new overhead casting reel as i sold most of my beach fishing gear because of a
long illness .
so my son dragged me up to corringle beach near orbost and the short time on the beach just brought
back just how much i love to be on a beach the first time in 4 1/2 years , so i went out and bought two
graphite rods , the 1st PENN PREVAIL SURF 12F 8-12KG 2PC and a paul worsteling nano rod 902 15-45g
and while ratting around in my back room i found my 144 8 wrap rod i rebuilt for an overhead and now
i need a good real and don't want an ABU they just dont do it for me any more .
i have looked at the penn squall 15 but i figured some here will be able to shed some light on whats
available .
cheers TAC

Re: overhead casting reel
Ive got a penn 535 mag which is much easier to cast than the squall. I have used it for shark fishing so its a tough reel. I still use an old Abu 7000c as well for lighter work.

Re: overhead casting reel
Penn Squalls are good value, a lot of people in the surfcasting club use them.

Re: overhead casting reel
Dinga is pretty good, their range can be a bit limited but the free postage when you sign up often makes them the cheapest online store out there.

Re: overhead casting reel
Hey mate
Depending on what you are planing on catching there are quite a few options.
The Daiwa Sealine range has been the bench mark for over head casting reels for over 20 years. The SL-X20-50 SHA range are amazing my last reel lasted me 7 years. And the price is not bad at all.

Shimano has quite a few options I personally liked the speedmaster they are great reels(I had a spool op once though....), shimano also has the Toriums. I have not used one as they are quite expensive.

I cannot speak for Penn and the others as i have not used those reels personally. But they look great. I havent ventured far from the Diawa's though they have always done me well.
Hope this helps
