Advice on a 6000-8000 sized reel for under $100...

Well, after a quick hands-on test-drive of both reels I went with the Fin-Nor LT60, which was $109 with a free 300m spool of braid.

The Penn SSV 6500 was a very nice reel, but the cheaper price of the Fin-Nor, plus the more compact size sealed the deal.

I already have an LT100, and it's amazing how similar the reels feel. I'll be having a look inside to see how different it is to the LT100

The LT100 is far to big for using with my 12 foot surf rod, but the LT60 should be spot on. Plus it'll also go well with my 15kg boat rod, out on the kayak.

That rovex braid is allright (assuming you went with the dinga deal), I would recommend using it for backing and getting an 8 weave braid if you're casting lures. Will be fine for bait fishing.

I've used the Rovex stuff before (Air-Strike) and always buy cheaper braid and have never really had any issues when casting. I don't think I've ever spent more than $15 on a 300m spool. The Aldi stuff is quite good too.

I'll give it a try out this week and see how it goes.

Well, it arrived safe and sound this morning. Haven't had a chance to spool it, or put it on a rod.

Looks and feels very solid and not too heavy.

Oh, and the braid that came with it is 8-carrier
