unless your fishing from boats back to the edge of a river/reef,etc baitcasters are to finicky in my book. Check your rod for max sinker weight,line capability, and be prepared for a big long sit down untangling. Ha Ha take another rod with you or you wont be fishing long.

I love using baitcasters, didn't at first but then started using my a reel my father had bought that I was never allowed to touch a Diawa Millionaire.
It is magic to use and sure I get the occasional tangle, but it is great to use.

I sort of agree with your dad, I'd do the same with my Son for that rod.
However, and to be honest, I forgot when was my last time I used mine, I really like this rod, but I don't want to use it just for any fishing, I always tell myself, it should be used in the right time in the right location.
Hey, When was the last time you used a baitcaster rod, and what was your targeted fish, and how did it go?
