Light Mulloway Rod recommendations
Hey guys.
Quick backstory. I own a couple megabass orochi x4, 6’8” 4-16lb (intimidator) they do the job. Glassy enough that I’m not going to break em by being a lummox. But sensitive enough to detect little takes etc.
Problem is, on a recent trip to nelson I caught a Jew on a steez thunderstorm. Which is a 7’ 6-12lb but far lighter than the orichi. High carbon which unfortunately resulted in a snapped tip that evening when piling people into the car for the pub trip and the lure on the Rod snagged into the seat with a tight drag
So now I’ve had a taste and I want more but the bloody rod is like 15 years old now so replacement won’t be easy.
Looking for suggestions to fill this void. Obviously any rod suitable for this type of work will do snapper as well.
Budget is for quality but I don’t have the appetite to drop the $500 the daiwa battlers/Jackall revoltage are asking.

Zodias? I have one which is good for throwing small lures like 4” and quarter ounce jig heads for snapper/perch/soapies

What model zodias George? Would you put 3/8th on it?
The vibe freak looks pretty bang on in terms of on paper stats alex. I’ll try and get hold of one for a feel.

The 268ml, original model. You could get away with it but I just use other rods when fishing 3/8th and heavier

Yeah fairo. You’re right I’ve got the heavier rods anyway so don’t need to be able to throw 3/8th.Snapper Snatcher wrote: ↑Sun Jul 25, 2021 9:30 pmThe 268ml, original model. You could get away with it but I just use other rods when fishing 3/8th and heavier
Found the thunderstorm was mint with the 65mm fish traps. First time using em.
I’ll go looking for a zodias to have a feel of. What your go to rod for the metro jews out of interest?

Re: Light Mulloway Rod recommendations
Looks like the new zodias 268ml is a 4-8lb rod. There’s a 270m which is 5-10lb or a 270mh which is 6-12.
I’ll have to go to a shop and give em a few ollivanders I reckon.

Re: Light Mulloway Rod recommendations
Cheers cobby. Plenty of food for thought there. When tackle shops open back up I’ll go for a walk through the racks. Havent done that in yonks haha.
The vibe freak would be an absolute no brainer but those camp grips just do my head in. Auto correct changed it from camo but it’s still accurate…
That black label was nice. Shouldn’t have ever sold it haha. Got caught on the search for perfection haha
