Fishing Kayak - Hire

Post by yepi'mon » Fri Jan 27, 2017 11:34 am

Hi Guys

I am looking to try out some kayak fishing with a mate (who has one already) but before I go out and buy a kayak I wouldn't mind giving it a try to see if it's for me.

I've found a few rentals online but wondering if anyone has any suggestions or recommendations on companies that hire out good quality, well set up rigs? I'd prefer to avoid heading out on something cheap and nasty for my first time!

Would be happy to look anywhere from the city, down the peninsula and Westernport bay.

Cheers :water:

I don't think you will get any kayak hire that is totally decked out for fishing. They normally only hire out out of box (unmodified and without any add-ons like Fish finder or Rod holder).

Your best bet is asking for those guided tour, like those will provide you with kayaks and all the setup and show you how to fish from certain area. Try Seasherpa,

They use Stealth fibreglass fishing kayak, and do fishing lesson in PPB and WP.

SLH Hobie in Mornington does now also Hire Yaks (HOBIES), but probably best to go out guided to learn all about safety, fishing etc in them first!

When I was looking at Kayaks, a friend and I hired Kayaks from The Kayak Shop near the Sandringham Breakwall:

Very good rates and they had a few Wavedance Kingfishers to test out.

Highly recommended.

I hired a Hobie outback from Mornington boat hire. no fish finder, but was all ready for fishing. Not too dear either, and close to good fishing ground to boot!
