If you're just paddling a bait out and not talking any serious wave action then I'd think you would get away with a $100 kayak from gumtree. I have a few sit inside style yaks that I've paddled rives, lakes and bays without any issues (even fished from them). Check out the one called an Australis Bass, very stable and can be picked up for under $200 with a paddle, probably a lot less in winter when no one wants to buy one. Spend the savings on more fishing toys.

Depends where you are paddling out. On the bay or on an ocean beach.

Then once you have one who is to say you may not just decide to use it otherwise than intended. Round the corner,/ to that reef just a little further out etc..If you have the means there is a tendency to use it.

Sit on tops are easier to get in and out of. If you are sticking to your proposed use then in sheltered waters any cheap 3m one should suffice. Still need a PFD though

Maybe ? ....Sounds like your better off buying one of those remote control boats (about 80cm to 1 m long) that you hook your bait and line too, drive it out , release the line andbait via remote, and drive the remote control boat back in , they even have fish finders , burley bucket releasers and gps on them these days ! . Something to think about maybe ? ,lol . Cheers

What about a drone, stay on dry land and don't stress your back.

Roof racks, yaks and bad backs never mix well unless you're considering some kind of loading system
