The car doesn't seem to be an issue anymore so Im glad about that.

Another question is where do you find second hand kayak? gumtree?
and how important do you guys think fish finder is. does it make a whole lot of difference in the amount you catch?

Gumtree -- Ebay --- the for sales section on Vyak - the sales section on the shed

while you don't need a sounder to catch fish , I would say yes it helps in many areas

PPB - you can quite often sound up snapper and of cause know the depth you are fishing
Westernport - almost a must if you wont to know where the channel drop offs are

you wont be sounding all over the bay like a boat though and the top of the range sounder won't catch you any more fish than a simple unit when you start out

I used basic black and white screened sounders when I started and still caught plenty of fish

I have both a GPS model with Navionics and a more basic colour sounder and use the basic unit more
and like to use the GPS model off shore more to know if theres a current I dont know about at least the bays you know which way the flow is going

The rear over hang formula mentioned is overhang from rear vehicle axle rather than vehicle body. The 1.2m is from body provided previous formula is met (in reality this is limit only kicks in for trucks with long wheel bases)

Once you have kayaked with a sounder you feel naked without one. If nothing else it reduces the risk of dropping anchor in reefs and getting it stuck.

If you get one too short, you will either give up on the idea soon or end up upgrading to a longer one. So get something decent, even if well used first time around.

All this talk about Kayaks is making me want one too :)

New to this forum, it's soon becoming apparent that a lot of great advice is being shared amongst fellow fisherman....apart from exact GPS locations

wanted some opinions on a kayak.
the deal looks pretty good, coming with everything i would need and the price seems good.
The yak seems to be called the shakespear 140 but there seems to be no review or anything about it so wanted to hear some opinions

Its made by emotion kayaks i believe, good length, so no reason it shouldn't do the job. The seal on some of the rectangular hatches may be known weaknesses. It comes with some basic gear to save you some bucks to get on the water. Could be a good starter package

Once you have purchased your Yak make sure you go and practice in either shallow water or a pool falling out and working out how to right it and work out how to re access the Yak. You should practice these things before venturing into PPB or WPB and you should start in estuaries before venturing into these waterways to understand the capabilities of your Yak etc.
As Cheater said you are better to purchase your Yak from a Yak specialist store and they will or should point you in the right direction.

Then just get out there and enjoy it!
