Inverloch kayak Surf Day 18/9/16

Post by cheaterparts » Mon Sep 19, 2016 7:43 am

Well a few punters fron Vyak headed down for a cold day in the water at Inverloch doing another surf training day - this is for a couple of reasons , first for the guys looking to fish off shore where a lot of launches will be through the surf and also just to pick up skills that move across to more ugly days on the water
Even the small slop has more power than most waves on the bays

must say thanks to Jordo ( Jordon ) for swimming out in some damm cool water to take some footage

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyWN-lVVn3Y

there were a few surfing Virgins on this trip

Tangles ( Angelo ) on his new Profish 400 - although had been to one other beach day was learning his new beast
Chenski ( steve ) new to his Clark Ski - new to paddling ( has used a Hobie Revo for some years ) and new to the surf
Leap ( Leejo ) New to the surf and does little paddling with his Revo although the pedal drive was left on the beach today
Eoin on his steath Fisha 500 has done a few surf days and supplied helmets for today which after the last surf day and one concussed after being dumped into the bottom it was thought to be a good plan
Neilo ( Nelson ) bought along a belly board as hid yaks in the shop for some repairs
myself on the Ocean Kayaks Prowler 4.3
Jordo ( jordon ) was out playing on a Dorardo 2 but put it away to take some go pro footage including swimming out to get some action shots

Eoin took the new guys in the slop and gave them some hints on Bracing , the footage doesn't show much but all improved in a short time
out a bit wider the waves though not big did tend to dump I know as I ended up in the drink a few times but did get a couple of good rides

of cause taking waves and trying to surf is different to say coming in from a fish instead of looking for the smaller sets to come in safely we are chasing the bigger waves , well just for the fun of it

anyway it was another top day in some very cold water -

Looks bloody cold !
How did the Clark ski handle? from the limited footage it seemed to recover well from a side on wave ?

Cold it was --- I didn't try the Clark Ski myself and Chenski the owner wasn't much to go on as he was new to playing in the surf however Jordo took it for a short paddle and said that it felt sluggish compaired to the Dorado and didn't punch through the wave as well ether

but of cause it was a short run I was going to give it a go but I was cold and buggered so will take it for a run next time

Eoin should also have a Stealth Profisha 525 this week and I'm keen on trying that - there's a fair chance one of these could be in Cheaters shed soon for off shore duties - at 5.25 meters long and 61 cm wide and 25 kg in weight they should make covering distance a breeze

You would think a few Kayak shops would get together and bring suitable brands down to the bay for demo days, all shops carry specific brands so all would be on the same level to make a sale, seeing this type of craft is really big for some fisho's it makes sense to have product days !

Or even in the Yarra somewhere if the bay is to rough on the day.

well some do like SLH the Hobie dealer in Mornington I think the other Hobie dealers do the same but that's about it

Aust Kayak Specialists are the importer and main dealer for Aust and NZ for Stealth , Clark Skis and Pinnacle ( top off shore yaks from South Africa ) - yes they do demos days in QLD and sometimes Sydney as they are based in QLD

however we now have an agent for these here in Vic just starting out and although wont carry a full range but will at least have 2 of the more popular Steath kayaks of his own , so there will finally be some shiney glass kayaks to test
Eoin has started a new business called Sea Sherpa and plans to take tours and do safety courses and has picked up the steath agency

https://seasherpa.com.au/ there I'''ll give him a plug

it's not a surprise that these fast glass yaks are popular up north where they are seen and can be tested

with more guys adventuring off shore down here in Vic I think the faster glass kayaks will become quite popular
