Coronet Bay - Snapper hunting 17/10/15

Post by cheaterparts » Sat Oct 17, 2015 4:51 pm

Winchbitch and myself launched from Coronet Bay around 7 am this morning ( 17/10/15 ) We headed out near Kiwis sore arms mark ( south of Pelican Island ) and pushing into the wind that was past Mals sore arms mark or so he said - I must say the 4.5 km out seamed further than normal

Any way it was a little bumpy with the wind against tide I guessing the wind was around 8 kts South west on an out going tide the yaks sort of held on the tide
as the tide slowed then the yaks yawed around making much more uncomfortable
I just kept thinking this will settle a bit once the tide turns

early on I picked up a 56 + cm red

Image

and a PJ shark but the baits were getting hit hard by small bait steelers around the turn of the tide the wind strengthened and by to the time we started to get an inward flow the wind was up around 15 knots and white caps were every where with some larger steeper bumps

with my light rod I had some fun with micro pinkys ( the bait thieves that had plagued us )

around midday some where we pulled the pin it was getting quite uncomfortable which was a shame as the tide was starting to run and I'm sure the bite would have come on
the trip back was a wet one with a lot of waves breaking over the side as it was a trip 90 degs to the oncoming white caps

Mel got bitten cleanly of by something that run hard - maybe a toothy of some sort but other than micro flatties and a pj I dont think he worried the scorers

theres a little story to it - Tea Tree 2013 I fished with a couple of guys and Kiwi not fishing the comp was on the water before us from around 2 am
after ringing him and finding out where he was we paddled out from Coronet bay
As we arrived he asked how deep it was as he didn't have a sounder or a GPS . I gave him the depth and I asked if he had fish this spot before

His answer was No I just paddled till my arms got tired and droped the anchor , the mark has been known as Kiwis sore arms mark since and most of the kayaking guys I fish with know the mark as this

By the way we all got snapper on this mark on the day and gummies
