Balnaring/Merricks 22/6/14
With Mal ( Winchbitch ) posting he was off to Balnaring Beach Sunday morning on Vyak it seamed like a good idea , both of us are doing a winter KG Whiting comp in a couple of weeks so it was time to do a reccy on some new grounds
with the water temps droping down in the mid 13 deg atm the KGW are a little harder to find
I'm pretty sure I arrived 30 -40 mins after Mal had launched and found Mav ( another yakking mate )setting also up I was the last of the group to get my feet wet with both well on the way out to some very fishy looking water in about 7 - 7 and a bit meters
the water down this end on the port is clear as even in 7 meters you could see the bottom quite well so finding sand patches between the weed and reef is quite easy
It however was very slow going - I heard Mal saying something about a Leather Jacket and I got my first action one rod got wont looked like a good whiting bite but it removed the hook , I was thinking to myself that is was a very agressive bite for a LJ then the other rod got hit and it was hooked up
this time the fish was taking some serios runs and on a 1 - 3 kg plastics rod and 6 lb braid
with first colour I thought it was a good size sambo but on closer inspection a nice solid 49 cm KGW and my new PB
About the same time as this was going on Mav had a bit of anchor problem some how the clip holding it onto the yak had fauled and the pick is still sitting in 7 meters of water
he left us about then to do some trolling and we kept on fishing the wind got up 10 -15 Kt and the conditions got a bit bumpy
Mal and myself moved in a little closer to get away from some bumpy conditions in closer I pulled 4 LJ s so the whiting and LJs made a feed
the wind had died right down by the time we left
so a new PB on a KGW for me and a size fish you dont see very offen , Hope he has some mates for the 5th and 6th next month

May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.
