Re: Little school fishes
Beautiful looking fish, well done. I must admit at first glance at your first photo I thought it was a light-coloured rainbow. How do they compare to rainbows - both the fight and taste?
There is no such thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer.

Re: Little school fishes
Hey time poor- personally I just target them for sport and release them. They have more of a paddle tail than trout which probably gives them more power. Using 6-8 kilo gear you can have fun with little fish but still be a decent chance of landing a nice one If you got the opportunity. Cheers.

Re: Little school fishes
Hornet- I figure what the hell and just lock and strike at the first sign of any enquiry- not a real planned approach. To put targeting them into perspective I had such a run of fishless trips I made a promise to myself that I would kick the sh*t out of the next one I caught. Now have to try and reach the metre challenge set by young SS.

Re: Little school fishes
LOL.. it's just that you hear so many stories some say let them run others say lock up, you don't know who's actually caught one or who's dreaming, a while ago I was targeting them in the Barwon with live salmon, I got the take and let him run about 10 meters then locked up, I came up solid and fought him for about 2 maybe 3 minutes and the line went slack, pulled the salmon in and it was all crushed, so much for letting them run, maybe if I locked up on the initial take the hook may have driven home ? it's what keeps us coming back ! :thumbsup:deathray wrote:Hornet- I figure what the hell and just lock and strike at the first sign of any enquiry- not a real planned approach. Re: Little school fishes
Hooking them is the hardest part, this one the rod just buckled over and I heard the drag while I was on the phone but usually it just slightly loads up for a split second and thats probably the best time to strike although it can be hard to do so seeing as its so quick. Heaps of other hits too but I'm pretty sure they are just bream as the take is quiet different.
