What other fish is similar in taste, if I catch one I'll know whether to keep it or release it..
I've tried them in Adelaide, they call them butterfish over there. Hard to tell how big the fish was when it's covered in batter but I rated them higher than flake
Thx litres, I guess I'll keep the first one to eat and taste and release after that if not to my liking.
That's what I did with cod, after trying the first and didn't like it I let em all go now.
I'd only eat a jew caught in open clean water never one out of the yarra.
I'd hate to find I've grown a third testicle down the track or worse ! LOL

An aussie company farms them for export to japan.

Those raw fillets look like flesh from large snapper ( 4 to 5 kilo ) I've filleted ( grainy ? )..

I've eaten one before, but since reading a bit more about the contaminants in mulloway in the north of the bay, I tend to catch and release from the urban rivers these days. I assume this one was from either the Maribyrnong or Yarra, though, judging by the grass! I guess eating one over a period of a few weeks would be fine - the advisory from a few years back said something like 150 gm per week from those systems is ok, from memory?

The more I consider this thread, the more I think this would have to be one of the most awesome landbased fishing sessions for mulloway not just in Victoria, but in Australia reported this year. 8x fish over 84cm up to 127cm in one session on lures - it's absolutely nuts! How long did the hot bite last for, Chillicrab?

it went abt 1.5hr ish, then i had to deal with trying to revive that fish so that was a huge downtime.

i am certain this is nothing, because ive heard stories that are wayy cooler than this by far.
