If you want some very interesting take a look here, http://www.livefish.com.au/native-fresh ... e-8cm.html

You can also buy halfbeaks they are live bearers and are practically just like garfish :)

You could also go with mud skippers but this would require a hald terrain half aqua environment which would be too small for your tank size. Keep them in mind for one day though.

Shrimps purpose is a clean up crew for your tank, they will eat all disregarded food and algae.

Some shrimp are herbivores and some are omnivores, cherry shrimp are herbivores and are the most common in the aquarium trade.

*DROOL*

MURRAY COD - can't get one though! =[ site looks good. You ever been to aco-aquarium in Highett? Going to have a look at it today.

If I bought any herbivores would I need to buy driftwood or would plants suffice?

No never been to that aquarium the closest near there I have been to is Mentone Aquarium.

Plants would be perfect for the shrimp, driftwood would add to the decor of the tank.

Bought some guppys and neon tetras just to regulate the water in terms of the ammonia etc. Fairly cheap so I don't care if they die. I've noticed the tetras have schooled and they have found their spot in the tank but the guppys have stayed on the top and are pecking at the bubbles.

Could this be:

A: Hungry and just trying to get food by picking at anything that floats or moves around the tank?
B: Lack of oxygen/aeration in the tank?

I'd imagine it'd be hard for you to answer as you can't see the situation.

I also bought some driftwood, but it's too light at the moment to sit it in position. How long does it take before the wood becomes dense enough for it to sink?

Sounds all good mate, just watch the guppies aren't doing rapid gill movement at the waters surface. This means the water is low in oxygen.

Can't really answer the question on the driftwood, depends how old the wood is etc..... Hold it down with something heavy like rubber bands attached to some rocks. ;)
