Carpe diem

Post by Sebb » Fri Feb 22, 2019 8:20 am

Trout is a very adaptive and efficient fish. I read a book about an old trout living in a small stream remains small and a two year old trout in a healthy lake grown up to a 5 lb.
Carp however is a total opposite, carp is a very opportunistic fish. It eats everything in front of them, taking everything when they can and not worrying about the future. I have caught a 5 kg carp among a dozen of them out of a foot deep and 1 meter wide creek.

Now I wonder, did the name carp came from latin word 'carpediem'? which means 'seize the moment'.
Though European Carp scientific name is Cyprinus Carpio.

Just under 5kg.
I was looking for some breams and saw this big fella feeding 1 meter off the river edge. Threw the plastic and saw the carp got it in the mouth and stroke. Didn't feel the bite. Then bbbbbzzzzzttttt !
Took around 20 mins to land on the bream gear, 1-3 kg rod and 4 lb line in 2000 reel.

Was certainly fun.
Got few audiences too (joggers, cyclists, rowers, people on the cruise boat)
I remember there was someone rowing and couldn't see my line (since they row backward) and the people on the cruise boat yelling at him to avoid my line.

That would have been funny to see. Nice fat fish. Well, nice for a carp that is.
