North Queensland

Post by Texas » Tue Feb 05, 2019 1:20 pm

We arrived at Charters Towers before Christmas, to care for my terminally ill brother-in-law. He has since passed.
We are cut off from most of Queensland. A bloke got through from Cairns & could return.
Woolworth's has virtually no stock, but are pumping out heaps of bread.I got the last packet of toilet paper.
Foodworks has some stock, but, will run out soon.
The local butcher is the only store with meat, although not a great range.
Plenty of beer around though (as it should be)
We have had rain every day since 19/1. Today is overcast & the humidity is around 90%, but no rain since 3am.
Washing will not dry completely & luckily we have a dryer. Cloth furniture etc is damp to touch.
There is no chance of flooding in town, the main river (that is over the bridge) is 20km from town. Trucks are parked at the roadhouse approx 2.5km from the Burdekin river.
Just heard we are to receive a "food drop" today.
All good here, just need the sun out for a couple of days to dry things out.
Cheers

Hang in there Tex. Floods in the northern part of our country...fires in southern part...some people can't win but they will make it through.
Cheers

Tex, my deepest sympathies to you and yours, great mate to do what you did, well done.

On the floods, at least you've got the "Great Ol Aussie Flood Kit' - Bread, BBQ meat, Beer and Dunny Paper. Seeing how you've bought the last lot of Loo stationary, if you run out, what I'd do is get the Newspaper and look for any pictures of Politicians , , , , make your own 3 ply minister :-D
