Upto 750gvm 6x4 trailers do not need to be registered if the weight of the Trailer (Empty) is 200kg or less. A 6x4 cage trailer is right on the border line but I have never had any issue just have the rego of the car towing on the trailer and everything is ok.

Also if your storing it outside cover it with a tarp if you can when not in use or make you have it tilted so the water drains straight out. As soon as water pools up rust begins it needs to drain out and dry quickly.

Driving around Hoppers and Werribee, you see so many trailers sitting in people's yards and full of rubbish.
That's the quickest way to rust out the floor
Soil, wood, sand and ever a mattress have heaps of moisture in them.

As Matt said---- if the trailer is wider than the car (or for commercial use), the trailer needs to be registered.

that 6 X 4 trailer would also need to be under 3 meters long to get away without rego but that's only in Victoria as soon as you go out side the state trailers have to regoed
We I believe are the only state that that runs the no rego rule on small trailers

I thing up to 750 Kg the trailer can be unbraked, above and brakes are require which can increase the a PITA factor.
Cheers

Cheers again for all the advice fellas. Did anyone get a chance to have a look at the one I posted in the eBay link? I’m gonna give Vic trailers a call in the morning and get a quote but I’m curious as to what someone with a bit of knowledge reckons of the one I linked to.
