Hope that makes sense and works for ya...

Yeah, usually these grommets are what restricts flow from the shower head and makes em water saving, but as they also restrict flow they generally mess with instant HW systems and solar with gas backup systems.

If you remove the grommet you will get so much better flow and pressure through your system and should enjoy some great hot showers once again.

That's un-Australian! Might cost you twice as much as getting a plumber, but at least you can say you fixed it yourself!

Worse case scenario is that you buy a set of new taps (you might have buggered them by wrenching them tight instead of replacing the washers)

So what your saying is "you stuffed up changing the washers"
There is a tool you can get ,to "re seat" the washers (can't think of the right name).
The grommet/filter is mainly there to stop pieces of stuff entering the shower head.
Throw it away, don't worry about the extra water use, we have desal plant for that.
Good luck

I think it's called a "tap reseater", I've been using one and doing washers etc. for 45 years, no idea how much it saves, but with a $95pllus for a call out fee, it must be a sh*t load of dollars, I've just had to start calling tradies for minor jobs, definitely a sudden shock to finances!
