You may have to declare your condition. You may not get covered on your pre existing conditions.

I have a cover paying almost $11,000 per year for top family cover with nil excess. No queuing for surgery. No shortage of bed. If you come in the morning for consultations you can be in the operating table the next day even for broken finger nails. That's how easy it is if you have private health cover.

At $11,000 a year it would be cheaper to just pay for any emergency operation you may require, this is the most ridiculous advice I have ever heard of, never had private health insurance and never needed it, even when my wife had a stroke everything was taken care of quickly and efficiently without any further cost to me

So what happenes if you out at a mates place and hurt your self?

Do you have to sue him for compensation for medical expenses?
Or hurt your self while hooking the boat up?

This is an interesting topic.
I was in recently getting a knee cleaned out ( old football injuries) I went private and payed for everything myself.
Cost me just on 5k. Now they did about 10 of us in one day and we were all finished with and done in the day.
before they let us limp home the surgeon walked from bed to bed and said he'd see us in a week or so for the stitches to be removed, followed by this short bloke, introduced as the physio, who had a one sentence for all of us, " keep it elevated, stay on the crutches for a few days and you should be fine". SO, we were all charged $250 EACH (2500 collectively) in our bill for a physio consultation !!!!
when we all returned a week or so later, I heard all the other patience commenting on how much they were out of pocket, most had health insurance.
I paid up front, and medi care refunded me, I was $ 1800 out of pocket, or effectively the knee surgery cost me $ 1800.
Most of those with medical insurance were on average out of pocket up to $1500 !!! go figure
On the day,I was still under the influence when I had to pay, and I flatly refused to pay the $250 for the wee bloke telling me to take it easy and calling it a physio consultation, so they deducted $150 off.
The only ones making money out of this is those surgeons and associated hangers on ! my knee was fixed, great job, but really !
Also had a work mate recently who had a mild heart attack, the ambulance came, took him to hospital, he actually went public, as it was cheaper than using his medical insurance, same hospital, same doctors........
There's a few in the medical profession making an absolute killing on this medical insurance.
only my view.......

We've had a couple of occasions where we needed urgent treatment and the hospital (Monash Medical Centre) was great. No wait, no mucking around, just great care and treatment.

Remember, we live in Australia, not the US. You're not going to be kicked out and left to die.

Private health insurance is a bit of a rort - so many conditions and caveats. Better to save the money and invest it - in case you do need elective surgery in the future.

If it’s serious Medicare covers it, even if it’s a result self inflicted stupidity.

Mum’s had cancer twice and never paid a cent to have it treated, both times the doctor had her under the knife within days of the positive test results.

Private health is good for non emergency quality of life stuff like hip replacements or laser eye surgery etc, although for people just starting their working life it would probably work out more cost effective to put away the same amount of money in a high interest account each month instead, and draw on that if you ever need surgery.

I work on private hospitals and there is a big difference on speed things happen. A kid goes to public emeragncy with appendecitis. Pain killers and antibiotics and semt home amd review with regular dr in few days.
Same kid goes to private hospital next day for second.opinion get admitted has surgery next day and has a overnight rest in a single room.

Another example of private. They paid $500 to be seen in ed. This come in for rib pain following leaning over the hand brake in the car. Ed dr pascripts panadine forte and admit to the ward for a xray next day. Stayed over weekend cos dr didnt come in over weekend and sent home. Lol

Theres a big difference between public hospital treatment and the speed things happen and private.

Public unless you having a heart attack or major fracture arm your sent home unless your old.
Private hospital admitt almost every that does through the door
