when something goes wrong.

Post by barra mick » Wed Oct 26, 2016 6:32 pm

So one day this trip we decided to fish a reef 53kms off the top of a island that was allready along way off the mainland.

The weather report was 10 knots in the morning with a swell of 1m so not to bad really.

We left at abt 3am and caught a stack of red emp, fingermark and coral trout up to abt 10am.

The weather ripped into nasty condictions within 10 mins so we decided to pack up and head home....we got a doulble strike on spanish mack as we were winding in and in the chaos my fishing mate got a trelble through his wrist from a xrap.

The hook didnt piece all the way through the skin so I couldnt take it out myself .I managed to cut the treble off the lure and give him some pain relief.

Byt this stage the swell and wind was getting real nasty .

we first needed to get back to the island 53 kms away....it took abt 3 hrs with a injured bloke.snd swell.

we then dumped our boat and used a bigger boat to do the next 98 kms to the mainland.

Once there we collected a car and drove to a medical clinic to get the hook out.....

the doctor juiced up my mate, got the hook out and we then began the trip back to the boat ramp, put the boat back in and drove back to the island to get my boat....getting back around 11 pm......thank god the wind has dropped off to nothing...

ive had worse injuries up there but probably not tougher days.

all good though....he caught his first meter barra two days later so pain forgotten

Damn. Before I saw the pic I was thinking you'd just push it through and cut off the barb to save the trip to the mainland. But that's way too close to arteries for comfort.

Mate, that's rough.

A metre of barra would certainly help though... I wonder if you can get a prescription for those?

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
