Cheap Hour Meter

Post by Ozzy » Thu Mar 20, 2014 8:25 pm

Bought one of these the other day to fit to my motor to give me a true idea of how many hours it does. Cost me 14 bucks off fleabay and easy as to fit.

I reckon it will be mate , I tried it on my car first and drove for exactly 30 minutes pulled over and it read 00.5 so I think it will be close , it works off the pulse of the spark

Sweet as. Hope it works well. As you are aware some of the things that you do get off ebay are cheap and nasty. And rarely work properly.

Mate of mine bought an hour meter from a lawn mower store, apparently people with ride on mowers buy them regularly, seems to be accurate on his outboard so far ...

There isn't much to the electronics of an hour meter, even the cheapest of cheapies will keep the time/hour count right, just a matter of how long they last.

Most just use the cheap TLP240 DIP4 semiconductor chip ( worth around $2 ) , cheap/ reliable/ and used in heaps of appliances these days.

A waterproof casing would be more of a concern if using one on a boat.... if it has one , fine ;) .

Cheers , Rick.

Exactly , I have a mate who is an outboard mechanic and I ran this one past him , no dramas he's seen quite a few and they seem to hold up well , this one is waterproof and actually looks to be quite well made
