Looking for a new boat

Post by Beno » Mon Oct 17, 2011 12:13 pm

Hi all

I am now looking for something a bit bigger than a tinnie.... maybe a runabout boat in the $3500-$4000 range.

Just wondering if any of you guys know some good boat places to go and take a look at some second hand boats.

Cheers Beno

Am affaird @ the price range you have , you most likely be buying someone else's trouble instead - e.g 4m + Fibreglass boat or Alloy . you will end up spending the same amount in most cases in repairs of outboard , trailers & with fibreglass boats rotting floors / transoms . Good luck , check out boatsales.com .

Looks and sounds pretty good but buyer beware... Like Miker said, you maybe buying somewhere elses problems.

If you do like this boat, make sure you test drive it, if says no, then he's hiding something. If you can, get a mechaninc to look at it, once again, if he says no, he's hiding something.

Just be careful

You just got to shop around alot.... trading post etc.. gumtree... sort off thing...
My first boat cost me $1000 and that thing took me heaps off places and got me heaps off fish... learnt so much in that thing... 11ft wooden ski boat transformed into fishing boat...lol
Blueband merc... what a motor, never ever let me down and ran on fumes... than again it was only 20hp...lol

Hey Beno. The motors pretty old, 1976 ish maybe. be very cautious of buying anything too old, as not many outboard specialists will touch them, even tho those old motors were fantastic, don't corrode like newer engines. I have seen far better buys for your money. aim to get the latest outboard you can get, have seen the odd 15ft half cabin with reasonably late model outboards for $4-5 grand. Centre consoles for $3000 plus. Keep looking!! if you find a boat you like, give Allan a call at precision marine, for a reasonable fee, he will inspect whole outfit and provide a full report for you.
I have bought boats for $20000 I wish i had a marine mechanic checkover. I will never ever buy a seafarer 5.5mtr viking ever again!!!!!!!
You know when they have a fishing show on TV? They catch the fish and then let it go. They don't want to eat the fish, they just want to make it late for something.

Thanks everyone for the help. Will probably still be looking for a while and don't want to risk it with the one I saw on gumtree. Good things take time :)

My 1st boat was a Swiftcraft 4.4m & 40hp big twin Evinrude & the bloke i bought it from told me its all working great & the gear box was replaced recently  , on my time out the gear box blown up  .
I went back & he said its my problem & i nearly knocked him out , so he coughed up $300.00 to me & only to my  it cost $600.00 to replace the gear box . i ended up spending more than i paid for that boat over the 3yrs i owned it , never again i said . smh
