Car battery for watersnake

Post by ian_gray » Tue Feb 19, 2013 8:43 am

G'day guys.
Just wondering if someone could help me with some info, I've just brought a 44lb water snake and was wondering if I can run it off a spare car battery I have and whether it will destroy the water snake. I'm only using it to get into snags and changing angles for weed beds and only til I can afford a 100 amp deep cycle battery. Any advice would be great cheers.

for as long as the voltage matched, there should be no issues.

Yeah as long as it runs off 12V it'll work just fine. It won't last as long as a deep cycle battery, but it should get you out of trouble for now.

It'll be fine as long as it's a 12 volt battery in reasonably good nick.
More likely any problems that might arise will be with the battery rather than the leccy donk.
Just depends on how roguh the water you're working in gets.
Car batteries don't particularly like getting bashed about in rough stuff too much.
Having said that most leccy motors aren't used in rough waters so it should be fine.
You would be better off with a deep cycle battery though, rather then a standard starting battery.
Ivf yer gonna use a std starting batteryy try not to let it really run down too far in chage.
Keep the charge well topped up (as best as possible anyway).
