What size fish Have you caught in small boats?

Post by cameronpatrol » Thu Jan 17, 2013 11:34 am

G'day all
Was watching I fish last night and i turned it on at the part where the bloke had hooked up a marlin in a mini inflatable boat.
not sure how they hooked it at the start but the marlin was bigger than the boat.
inflatables are pretty stable and boyant from what ive experienced with them. mucking aroudn with them at work.

So whats the biggest fish youve targeted and caught in a small boat??
say a 14 foot tinny.

I know weather is a big factor on where you can and cant go but id like to have a crack at some yellow tail kingies and maybe some shark in PFB.
Am I nuts??
or have any of you fellas tried it before?
whats your thoughts?
If there was a toothy on the line it wouldnt be coming in the boat, just bring it aside of the boat and cut it free plus a photo.

Cheers cam

I caught about a 6 foot hammerhead on a very small tinny about ten years ago. Tinny would have been max 7 or 8 foot. Believe me it was NOT intentional. We were on Lake Macquarie (NSW) chasing snapper and jewfish - even big flattie. Scared the **** out of us. We would have been 18 or 19 at the time. Once it surfaced beside the boat it was a quick heart attack and a swipe at the line with a knife! lol
If only I could fish more

In 1973 when I was 10 I went to Darwin to stay with my Uncle for holiday, Was Awesome ! 1st time in a plane , 1st time going anywhere in the world . He took me out fishing in his tinny with his mate.
I was dragging a hand line , and hooked a spanish mackerel .
The main thing that sticks in my mind about it was the blood spraying everywhere . Not the fish's theirs!
Ive got no idea how heavy it was other than when they got it in, seemed as big as me with very large teeth , and trashing around , nearly tipping the boat over .
It ripped the **** out of them , hands, arms , legs. And I was absoultely terrified I would die.
But in the end they killed it , before it killed them.
I remember they cooked it up over a hole in the ground with hot coals and people came from everwhere for a party he had on.
I was the Hero of the day , yet did nothing other than throwing a hand line out .
Was a pretty cool experience and something I will remember forever :fish11:

Caught a few spanish macs in my brothers tinny he pulled in a 6ft hammer head.

Threasher in a yak would be great fun but I wouldn't want to go near a mako.
