Tinny? Waste of time? First boat?
Hi everyone,
As some of you may have seen my previous post I'm in the market for a boat.
What would be the smallest size tinny (if any) you'd recommend for fishing PPB and WPB.
We don't want to buy one and regret it or find out we would of been happier with a run about.
We would like the option to have 2-4 of us in it sometimes.
Top end of the budget would be 7.5k
Happy to hear other suggestions.
Thanks in advance, Bryce.

The bigger the better if there are going to be 4 of you in it.Brycei3 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 10:00 amHi everyone,

Look at Kapsten boat collars. If I had kept my tinnie I would have put them on it. I am thinking of adding to my glass boat.
My word of advice is don't set yourself up to become another statistic of boating accidents in PPB.
A novice can still sink a 34 footer whilst

Boating is about safety first and comfort.
I've got a 5.45 fibreglass and I wouldn't take 4 on that. Not for safety reasons but for comfort.
I've seen 3 and 4 people on a tinny out on the water and they look like they are having as much fun as a bloke going to his mother in laws for dinner.
2 on a tinny is fine.
You can get a nice cuddy / half cab for that kind of money which would.hold 4 people better than a tinny, not that I'd do it.
3 max on my boat as we all like space when we fish

Waste of space having a cabin. For $7.5k you rule out 99% of the decent age and condition boats at that size and the blokes first boat ownership experience is utter **** throwing $$ after $$ at problem after problem.crumpet_avenger wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2019 11:42 amBoating is about safety first and comfort.

Just get the biggest and newest open tinny available, a minimum 4.2m. Not the most comfortable, but fishable with 4 on board. At worst, something like bowls (late 90s 4.5m runabout tinny) but 4 on board will be cramped. Atleast corrosion is easier to see in a tinny than wood rot is in a glass boat

The things I would consider is how far you want to travel and in what conditions?
The level of comfort/protection from the elements the 2-4 of you are going to want. This includes shade?
Amount of crap you want to carry e.g food, water, safety equipment, sunscreen, fishing gear etc
You could get away with a 4m tiller steer tinny.

I have a 5.7 mt and fish 4 people bit still stepping over each other sometime.
With 4 people you need to be really organised.
