Those Dirty Trailer Rollers
I’m getting pretty good at cleaning the black road grime from the white fibreglass hull of my boat.
I’m getting pretty good at cleaning the black road grime off the grey poly rollers on the trailer.
I’m getting pretty sick of doing it too.
I’ve read other forums and maybe the answer is in the roller material ?
The ones on my dunbier trailer are grey poly and apparently they poly material is prone to absorbing or holding the road grime. Teflon rollers have been suggested but I had a look on eBay and on the dunbier spares catalogs and they only seem to have poly ?
Can someone please fill me in on what’s going on ?
What’s the solution for these dirty rollers ?
Cheers

Re: Those Dirty Trailer Rollers
Hi Crumpet
Just spray on wd40 and give it a minute to soak while you stay other spots and the marks just wipe away.
It's easy enough to clean off but because of my location it's a 90 minute drive to get to south of the bay. So after every trip it's the same, clean the hull and rollers
The rollers just seem to attract the black film.
Does your trailer have rollers ?
If so what colour are they and are they poly or teflon ?

Re: Those Dirty Trailer Rollers
Yeah you’re right fishnut I rang the trailer repair centre and they said Teflon is a bit hard for a fibreglass hull.
They asked if I drive a diesel but my car is petrol.
So no real answers there.
I tried dunbier but they close early,,,,

Re: Those Dirty Trailer Rollers
Hey yota do the rollers have grooves running accross them,if so the grime maybe collecting in the grooves
The red polyurethane smooth rollers maybe better
A lot of new trailers for glass boats have skids down the sides instead of rollers

Yes they have the grooves across them, the grime collects around the whole roller not just the edges, and unfortunately.fishnut wrote:Hey yota do the rollers have grooves running accross them,if so the grime maybe collecting in the grooves

Re: Those Dirty Trailer Rollers
So this is a 100% common issue with all rollers and fibreglass hulls ?bluewater81 wrote:Change to skids and never look back.
If so my next trailer definitely will be a skid trailer.
Between dirty rollers, uneven rollers and all the extra bits that need corrosion upkeep, what a bunch of malarkey.
One good feature is the self centering action of the rollers.
How do the skid trailers go when launching ?
Do you have to dunk the trailer further to get the boat off ?
