Cleaning out petrol tank

Post by Pedro » Tue Sep 11, 2018 12:22 pm

Have recently been gifted a plastic petrol tank which i am contemplating carrying as a reserve tank.
However, whilst it is in good condition it hasn't been used for a while so would like to give it a clean out. Any advice on what methods and/or products to use would be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Pedr0

put a bit of petrol in it, swish around. Get a rag on a stick, run it around the inside etc.

Leave in the hot sun for it to evaporate.

Rinse and repeat if its really bad.

If there is residue left from old fuel, it will need a solvent like thinners. Pour some in and let the tank sit with the thinners soaking the residue. Then rinse with petrol. Otherwise just shake some petrol around and discard thoughtfully.

Wash it out with methylated spirits which will absorb any water that may have accumulated in there
