Read somewhere that premium ulp should not be used in 2strokes because it has a cleaning agent in it that removes the oil and can cause issues with lubrication to the motor

Fishnut, you would have read that somewhere, it's in some engine manufacturers spec sheets.
My view, a 2 stroke has additives/ 2 stroke oil mixed with the fuel, so I don't really see it as an issue as such,
But it is definately in manufacturers spec's whether we like it or not, and that in it self sparks concerns with what ever we may think is right.
From my understanding, the raised octane rating, by the extra additives added compared to 91 fuel,
Effectively alters the burn rate. We are talking micro seconds here, but basically that's the difference.
In my critical application with old Brit bikes, I use premium only, to help curb pre detonation, which is a huge problem with them.
A hot 40 degree day, stale fuel, and lagging the engine is a prime trigger for pre detonation in the old girls, never had an issue with it washing oil
from the bores, as they state, if it did indeed do that, I would have serious other issues internally for that to happen.
It's predominantly the burn rate that's the big difference.
Just my view on things

Premium burns cooler yes. That's the main advantage. Along with its cleaning abilities..
The way I see it. It can't do any harm going through the carbs and cleaning them out a bit at the same time..

That's true Purple, the burn is slower and cooler compared to 91, but it's micro second stuff.

But it does pose the question, why do 2 stroke engine manufacturers advise against and recommend lower octane ?
I in all honesty cant see the difference when using it with a 2 stroke engine.
If manufacturers of 4 stroke engines specify ( as most japanese manufacturers do) 91 octane, my advice, stick to what they state, for obvious reasons.

The manufacturers also advised against using synthetic 2 stroke oil and 4stroke engine oil, well, until they brought out their own synthetic oils that is. I have never seen any engine damage caused by use of a higher octane fuel in something with 91 octane recommended, (in 30 years of working on engines), and as for manufacturers, sometimes they don't give us all the information, just what they think we need to know, it's not always to the benefit of the consumer

the conclusion i came to was that synthetic oil wouldnt seperate if using 98 fuel, so no harm done
