LOL all good mate iam running a crownline at the moment, love it to bits absolutely beautiful boat! My view is I couldn’t give a rats arse how much it costs me in fuel as boating is a luxury not a necessity and only done every so often, if I had issues with efficiency in my car which is a necessity I would be inclined to investigate further but I recon your better off just enjoying it and not worry about non issue things like saving a bees d*** of fuel in a boat.. just my two cents worth mate :water:

Gee, I dunno, an old 115 15 year old Johnson is going to be working hard to push that along !
In the old scale, 1- 1.15 km per litre would be the best you'd get out of that surely ?
Even at 1 litre per km I'd say your doing pretty good.
But you were way worse than that from memory, so there are a few things to really check over as someone listed out.
Remember this sounds like a decent size boat with an old carby tecnology pushing her along,
The deeper the V the more fuel she will use as well.

As far as the four stroke vrs 2 stroke cost etc, if your only going local and not using it much, the benefit of a 4 stroke wont be seen, if you did huge miles, say fishing a lot on the shelf, that's where a four stroke comes into its own..
I made the decision to go 4 stroke when a trip out to the shelf was using 150-160 ltrs, compared to a mates 90 ltrs,
huge difference if you do alot of shelf work........

Some really good suggestions on here
Just a quick question, is it just lately that you have noticed the fuel consumption issue? As there is not much that can really go wrong (generally) with a 2stroke, servicing involves changing plugs, leg oil, and possibly adjusting mixtures, and mixtures affect idle only, so really the worst possible problem could be an over fuelling problem due to a carby fault, sticking float or split gasket ect, but most times that would be picked up during servicing or general use, due to starting issues, bad/rough idle, excessive smoke
I would start with the basics, check plugs and plug gaps (yes they can make a difference), make sure that all the plug leads are connected, not forgeting to drain fuel filter and line, fill with fresh fuel and 2stroke oil, then do another fuel consumption test. Good excuse to get back out to drop a line at a minimum

PJ72 he only recently purchased the boat.

Just a tip in reply to some of the advice offered here, some of us have been on the boat.

In addition to this some of us have had passed experience with the same motor on similar boats.

Is there a drill powered pump i can attach to the fuel line to pump out any fuel in the tank over winter instead of just pumping the fuel bulb a million times

Ok,
This is off topic, but since it was mentioned here ill reply back here

For the people that don’t believe in the whole premium fuel doesn’t give you extra mileage/better and smoother driving/idling etc.

I just drove to Mallacoota from seaford on one tank of 98 optimax (60 litres to be precise) towing my boat (around 700 odd kgs)
And almost exactly the same amount coming back. Both times fuel light came on almost around 15 mins left to destination.
Fuel consumption was 12.4L on the trip meter.
I did not test the theory by using 91 fuel, but I can almost gurantee it wouldn’t be anywhere near, as I have done it before on a previous trip to lakes entrance and the numbers were quite Poor.

Also to note
I used the optimax in my boat (2 stroke 50hp) and we fished parts of top and bottom lake of coota hammering it everywhere we went and used almost a full tank of fuel (25l totem, but filled to the brim more like 27l id say)

Now for the nay sayers im not saying this is gospel. But don’t knock something until you actually try it out, you may be surprised!!!!
