Hi guys just thought I'd update you. I managed to borrow a mates car and took my rig to a weight bridge. $1550kg with a half tank of fuel and usual gear.

Regarding the car, we bought a 2013 mazda cx-5 maxx sport AWD twin turbo diesel.

Didn't know cx-5's came in twin turbo diesel. Mazda's are good cars.
Better watch out for those "road safety cameras"
Cheers Gra

1800kg tow capacity is cutting it very fine for a 1550kg load. Fill the petrol tank, add some mates and gear in the boot and it will be over the limit.

 Yep and this is why a BT50 can carry more gear and legally tow more than a 200 series.

All needs to be factored in most vehicles tow ratings when you add gear reduce by 10-20%.

Xtrail for example with people and gear would be legally able to tow 1600kg which is a very realistic maximum rating for the vehicle.
Not sure where you got your figures from but my lc200 vzx gcm 6800kg gvm 3350kg car weighs 2705kg with 3500 kg on the back leaves about 595kg to play with. Bt50 gcm 6000kg gvm 3200kg car weighs 2100kg with 3500kg on the back leaves about 400kg.
The bt50 can not tow 3500kg at its gvm where the lc200 can.so the statement the bt50 can carry more gear and legally tow more is not true.

To clarify my previous comment the tray version (1820kg) of the BT-50 can have a payload capacity of 680kg whilst towing 3500kg at 6000kg GCM.

Add fuel. Eski full ice and drinks amd few extra game rods and 3 to 4 blokes and you be over.

If your going away for a trip your probably going to be over

LOL I usually put my mates in the car when I tow the boat around.

It'll be fine ... have been towing it for 2 years with a 1500kg rated fwd astra without any issues.

There’s a rather large difference between what’s “fine” and what’s legal though...
