I've heard this, apparently submerging hot bearings into cool water will cause the grease to contract and ‘suck in’ water into the bearings. This is why God created bearing buddies

I just have problems with the rear bearings and
I was told by the mechanic that after driving a hour to the ramp you need to wait 30 mins for the bearings to cool down before reversing the trailer in.

Has anyone heard this before and
Just wondering how long most people weight before launching after driving there?
You need to find a new mechanic man. Wait half an hour hahaha. He obviously doesn't fish much i take it.
If your bearings are getting hot then somethings not right with it. Time to replace them.

Clearly you live too far away from where you go fishing. Stuff driving an hour each way.

Solution: Move closer to the ramp.

We contomplated moving closer but for a house that didnt need renovations cos my wife was 8 months pregnant and i was working 5 nights a week (cos we would be down to 1 income for a year) we couldnt afford a house within 1/2 hr drive drive or less from the water.

If i had the money i would buy 5 mins from the ramp.

Yep - Cool Hub / Cool Bearing /// Hot Hub / Hot Bearing = Trouble.
I repack all bearings at least once a year and follow the process I described above - Never had a bearing fail yet.
I only use top quality bearings, cheap and nasty = disaster.

I normally do them once a year and inly had a problem if i push my luck and leave them longer and i use bearings from repco.
But the mechanic said they needed doing after 7 months.
Been fishing twice since then and the hubs have been cold when i get to the ramp
