Integrated swim platform and trim tabs
Integrated swim platform and trim tabs
Does anyone know if there are swim platforms that also work as trim tabs. Of course those tabs would be not adjustable. The reason why I am asking is that my boat is porpoising a even in this mornings condition at PPB. It was like minimal to no wind but with gentle waves of less than 0.5 m. Virtually flat. Thanks.
My thinking is that if I were to do a trim tab, it might affect my ability to install a ladder or swim platform later. So was wondering if there is something that could kill two bird with one stone.
I also googled and someone suggested smart tab which is cheap, but there was feedback that they were flimsy and may break.
I have tried asking a mate to stand in the bow but it still porpoises. I was wondering if installing a $2800 anchor winch would solve the problem?

What is the boat and motor mate? Have read about permatrims but don’t know if they’ll solve your situation

Re: Integrated swim platform and trim tabs
Is your outboard larger than the recommended for the hull? Experiment with weight distribution and the trim of your motor before going for trim tabs. Trim in and move some weight up the front, see what happens.
The duck board/swim platform should be above waterline at rest and the trimtabs will be below it. On my boat at least; they would not interfere with each other. May be a different story on a smaller boat.
Putting the outboard on a pod may also help and is another option to consider.

Re: Integrated swim platform and trim tabs
Before spending any money.. I would contact the boat manufacturer, give them the information on what motor is fitted how the boat is set up, such as what gear and where it's located ... if they cannot give you the answers then look at alternatives ...

Is your boat alloy or glass? I've seen trimtabs that are recessed into the hull so nothing is protruding. That was on a glass boat

Sounds like a weight issue more then anything else.
What sort of boat do you have?

Do you have a hydrofoil of your motor leg to help trimming ?

No. Hoping not to go there because it would make the boat too long as I need it to fit the garage.smile0784 wrote:Do you have a hydrofoil of your motor leg to help trimming ?
Am considering sandbags on the bow or maybe self leveling trim tabs. But I hope that maybe it is just a driver problem. I had the motor trimmed all the way down and was still porpoising. I wonder with a 90HP 4 s motor with dual batteries could be the cause,

Re: Integrated swim platform and trim tabs
Suggest that you check if the motor is setup to the correct height = Distance from Cavitation plate to the bottom of the hull as well as the angle between the cavitation plate and the bottom of the hull, they should be parallel - Refer to motor manual or "google - motor height 90HP 4 s motor" - had similar problem until I reset motor to correct height Improved performance and fuel consumption. Have a friend that had a similar problem, motor fitted by dealership had to be lifted 50mm to get correct height.
