Lashed out for a new boat
Its painted white and the Gunwale is scratched and scuffed.
Trumpeter advised me that he has seen painted boats that have had the complete Gunwale edge -Paint sanded off-Has any body seen this or have done it?
Any info is a help,Tx Denis

Re: Gunwale Damage-Info please
I have seen it done on ally boats. Mine is ally, the gunnels are painted, or at least they were originally but now that I've rubbed up against 100's of jetties and piers they look pretty scuffed up. If your boat is ally then I'd say you're fussing over nothing, it's just sad to see a nice new paint job get its first few scuffs. If it's glass then it should have a rubber trim to prevent this. You could invest in some fenders if you can be bothered to use them but a few scuffs on the gunnels of an alli boat will be the least of your concerns after 12 months when the paint starts to bubble around fittings or the Skeg is missing or ........

Re: Gunwale Damage-Info please
If this was in reference to my post then I might not have been clear that I meant I have seen alli boats with no paint on the gunnels (but otherwise painted), not plastic/rubber mouldings. I believe they do this because trying to keep painted gunnels from getting scuffed up is near impossible under normal use conditions. This detracts from the overall aesthetics of the otherwise shiny new boat look.smile0784 wrote:I never seen alloy boats with rubber trims they normally just use fenders

It's always a bad feeling scratching a new toy, but one of the beauties of buying an alloy boat is they are tough... if you don't mind a few battle scars, you don't need to use fenders (and chicks dig scars!).
