Small Tool Kit for Boat

Post by skouta » Sun Feb 11, 2018 11:41 am

Hi All,

Just wondering what sort of basic tools you suggest should be carried on the boat just in case something goes wrong.

Much the same as smile, I guess you carry as much as practical, for your size boat and the length of trip.
I've got a 6m fibreglass boat and I only go out for up to 12 hours. I've got a canvas 4x4 bag with multimeter, socket set, screw drivers, spare bungs of each size, a few electrical crimp connectors and lots of other stuff. The bag is about 1 meter long and 30 cm tall and wide. I always remove it and most other gear upon return home and clean up.
Interested to hear what others do to.
Cheers

Great question...I carry a few bungs, adjustable spanner, reversible screwdriver, pliers, fuses and trailer bearings...and of course electrical tape (you can work miracles with electrical tape) I store everything in my emergency grab bag.
You have reminded me I still havent got a First Aid Kit.

I carry exactly the same as smile. I work on the theory if I need more than this then I have a serious problem that cannot be fixed on the water.

I always thought the spare wire is handy but probably I would never use. I have used it twice and neither use was for its intended purpose. I had a blockage on something at the wire wire was perfect and last year I hit something in the water which snapped the traducer bracket straight off. The wire was very handy to tie the transducer up out of the way.

Locally I carry stuff all. But if I’m going away for the weekend I take my full sparky toolbag in the car for various **** that can and luckily has not happened.

Although I do remember one time a drunken chick damaging a cavity slider on a house boat I was on. Had to take the entire thing apart which involved unscrewing screws that had been stopped up and painted. It’s amazing how effective a plaster made from eggwhite mixed with protein powder can be at patching screw holes on a cream door frame Hahahaha
