Great idea but I wonder how it will be received by fishos?
It is stated "The idea behind this flare is not to replace the pyrotechnic flares but to use them as a assitent to them."
At $269 in excess of standard flares I can't see these being big sellers, much as they might be a great idea.
Pity that price will in all probably get in the way of a good product, but I 'spose that's the reality of life.

It is about time the boating regulators updated to take into account modern technologies. A flare pack on a recreational boat is both dangerous and of marginal use. Once you use them if you didn't attract attention you are screwed. If these laser flares were allowed as a ligit replacement for a flare pack then it would only take a few years for you to get your money back and volume sales would probably reduce the price.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

If they could be used as a replacement for pyro flares then that would change matters altogether.
Makes the cost a lot more afordable, although still expensive.
I also think that if they could be used as replacements for pyros then sales volumes would see the rpice drop & the product become more affordable, eventually leading to increased sales.
If electronic epirbs can be seen as mandatory safety gear then there's no reason why these couldn't replace pyro flares.

It also has indefinite shelf life with battery changes, possibly saving money in the long run
