Edencraft 6.0m Review/Report
I've been a bit quiet on here last few months with no boat, but that hasn't stopped me fishing!
A mate recently picked up his brand new Edencraft 6m with the lot. And by the lot, I mean that it looks like has basically ticked "all" in the options list. This boat is the 6m Edencraft that was recently reviewed on Boatsales.
Anyway I was pretty keen to get out on this famed weapon of a boat and see how it rides, so after 4-5 trips out in it I thought I'd share my thoughts on the boat.
Pros:
- The thing is lightning quick. Twin 140 suzukis certainly pushes it along, we've had it over 80kmh on several occasions
- Autopilot. I never realised how useful autopilot could be and very thankful that I've got it coming in the new boat, we've used it all the time for a variety of situations.
- Comfort. The seats are very comfortable, and the boat has no problem inshore with some chop, you can fly along at 40 knots without noticing that the chop is even there.
Cons:
- Offshore handling. Like all boats, the Edencraft handles calm conditions well, but when the swell and wind gets up its not the boat I want to be in. For a boat famed for its offshore capabilities, I found it unstable, very uncomfortable and required a lot of driving. The boat does not like driving under 25 knots, so when conditions don't allow for that it becomes a very uncomfortable ride banging a lot.
- Clears. This is not specific to Edencraft, but after owning a hardtop i now hate clears. Harder to see through, and in sloppy weather they leak anyway and let plenty of water in.
- Fit out. There are some weird decisions on this boat made by Davey marine. The cabin door is clunky and rattly, is prone to swinging shut (jamming fingers) and actually snapped off on the second trip. The sound system is installed at knee height in front of the passenger, meaning that you tend to turn it on and off with your knee when going over bumps.
- Fuel cap. Why have a fuel cap that needs to be unlocked with a special key, and isn't on a hinge so you need to make sure you don't misplace it?
So while the boat lives up to its speed demon status, I'm personally underwhelmed with what is supposed to be one of the best 6m boats on the market.
I'd like to go for a ride in a Haines to see how that compares to the Edencraft.
Has anyone else had a ride in one of these boats and have a different opinion?

Oh, and in 4 trips we have caught a total of 1 just size gummy.
Not sure I can blame the boat for that though :snap:
