Outboard Maintenance for Cash $$

Post by TheGreatestGoat » Sat Sep 23, 2017 5:16 pm

Hey All,

So on the metaphorical eve of Snapper season the old outboard motor has decided it doesn't want a big red and has decided to not start. Spewing.

I've tried the 'obvious' stuff like battery, fuel etc but aside from that don't really have the technical know how to troubleshoot any other possible causes.

Called up a whole bunch of marine service centers but given the timing with snapper season, everywhere is booked out for next couple of months. Would really love to get out on the water before that!!

Does anyone know of anybody - backyard mechanics, anyone handy with a motor etc who might be interested in going over it for cash? Would be willing to pay good bucks to get her back on the water ASAP.

Cheers!

Also - How old is the fuel, tends to go "off" in time // also check - replace the spark plugs, do not expect it to start first go.
If you are not sure Google "Motor type / Horse power etc. trouble starting" - ie. "Mercury 50hp trouble starting" - There is a lot of info available - Good Luck.

Plus - Is the ignition switch a push and turn type - Initial push primes the fuel system / Turn to ignition Initiates the Ignition ( Starter and Spark).

What Russell said....make sure you have fresh fuel anything older than 4 weeks will be stale and will likely cause issues.
